YBH recognizes that open lines of communication are critical to
the emotional and educational welfare of each child. Therefore,
we actively work to implement a genuine partnership among our
administration, staff, parents, and students. In addition to
regular parent/teacher conferences, parents have open access to
our highly responsive administration, which is kept apprised of
any special issues that a child or family may face.
At YBH, we also recognize the importance of our parent body. Our
Yeshiva was established by and, to a large degree, continues to be
maintained by our parent body. Parents are encouraged to
participate in and attend class functions at all levels. Not only
does this allow our parents to interact with their children in the
classroom; it allows them to stay abreast of what is going on with
our Yeshiva.
YBH further recognizes that the home environment is the most
conducive of places for instilling all of the Yeshiva's core values.
Special care is given when scheduling the Yeshiva's calendar,
ensuring that students have ample time to spend with their families.
The Methodology:
-
Both parents are encouraged to attend plays and special
presentations in younger grades
-
Lines of communications remain open on a formal and informal basis
-
Parents invited to participate in various activities (e.g., help
with a class art project), particularly in the lower grades
-
Yomim Tovim are followed by travel days
-
Long Chanukah weekend break and week-long winter break
The Results:
-
Children gain important emotional benefit from their parents'
involvement in their special activities
-
Parents are kept informed through weekly newsletters,
formal parent-teacher conferences, student progress reports
and report cards, as well as via phone conversations and visits to
the Yeshiva. Open communications between parens and teachers is the
only way to ensure real success.
-
Students benefit from the parental involvement on both an emotional
and educational level, while parents gain an opportunity to shep
nachas
-
Families can return home safely without their children missing
important lessons
-
Students can re-energize and refresh themselves for a renewed
thirst for learning, while spending quality time with family
A Closer Look:
YBH hosts an annual family Shabbaton, which promotes an informal
setting to encourage interaction among parents, administration,
Rabbeim, and Moros. The event includes Shabbos
lunch with zemiros
and divrei Torah and culminates in an afternoon of learning, with
students meeting in various classrooms while parents enjoy shiurim
by local Torah authorities. The event continues to grow every year
in size and popularity.
